Aikido was founded in Japan in the early twentieth century by Morihei Ueshiba (known as O-Sensei).
He created aikido as a synthesis of several martial schools in which he trained. The word Aikido consists of three
phonemes (Ai - harmony; Ki - Energy; Do - way or road) which translate as "the way of harmony with Ki".
All techniques are designed to neutralise an attack without injuring the attacker.
The founder of Aikido Yuishinkai,
Koretoshi Maruyama Sensei received his teaching license in 1967 from Morihei Ueshiba Sensei. Maruyama Sensei practiced several styles of Aikido before founding
Aikido Yuishinkai in 2001.
With the help of international chief instructor, Michael Williams Sensei,
Maruyama Sensei established schools
around
the world in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Fiji, Phillipines,
Germany, France, Switzerland, Denmark, Holland, UK, Singapore, Iran, USA and Argentina. For more information about Maruyama Sensei,

Mizu Head Dojo Instructor - Aran Bright Sensei
Aran Bright was introduced to the martial arts as a youngster practising karate, then began his aikido training in 1996. He is an
accredited instructor internationally with Aikido Yuishinkai. Aran's approach is very much influenced by Maruyama Sensei's teachings
of training for optimum health. He likes to incorporate a balance of energetic movement, meditation and discipline in his classes,
making it both challenging and fun. Aran is a lecturer at the Endeavour College of Natural Health in Musculoskeletal Therapy.
The Endeavour College of Natural Health, previously the Australian College of Natural Medicine,
is the largest college of Natural Therapies tuition in the country. The Great Hall that we train in has long been a part of the college with a number
schools of martial arts and movement therapies training in the same venue. For further information about the college, click here.
